Lazy Social Comments

Description

⚠️ This plugin has been discontinued and will not receive further updates.

Facebook (Meta) permanently shut down the Facebook Comments embed (along with other social plugins) on February 10, 2026. Since this plugin’s only purpose was to lazy load the Facebook Comments embed, it can no longer function. This is a Facebook decision and there is no workaround.

What this final version does

  • Removes all Facebook Comments code from your site.
  • Restores native WordPress comments automatically.
  • Shows an admin notice explaining the situation.

What you should do

  1. Deactivate and delete this plugin.
  2. Your site will continue using native WordPress comments.
  3. Want a modern comment section again? Try Convocept, described below.

Important note about old comments

Comments posted through Facebook Comments were stored by Facebook, not in your WordPress database. They cannot be exported or recovered.

Looking for an alternative? Try Convocept

Convocept is a free, fast, native comment system from the same team. It gives your readers a modern comment section — threaded replies, upvotes, email subscriptions and moderation tools — and it is built so that what happened with Facebook Comments cannot happen to your comments again:

  • Your comments stay on your site. Every comment is a normal WordPress comment in your own database. No outside service holds them, so no outside service can switch them off.
  • Fast like this plugin was. Convocept loads no JavaScript until readers reach the comments, so the comment section never slows down the page.
  • No account needed. Readers comment with a name and email, as in WordPress. No Facebook login, no third-party tracking.
  • Works with the comments you have now. This final version already switched your site back to native WordPress comments; Convocept shows them in its new design the moment you activate it.

Thank you to everyone who used this plugin over the years. ❤️

Do not install this plugin. It is discontinued because Facebook shut down the Facebook Comments embed.

If you already have it installed, update to this final version, then deactivate and delete it.

Why is this plugin discontinued?

Facebook (Meta) permanently shut down the Facebook Comments embed on February 10, 2026. Without it, this plugin has nothing to load.

Can I get my old Facebook comments back?

No. Those comments were stored by Facebook, not on your site, and Facebook has not provided an export.

What happens to comments on my site now?

This final version restores native WordPress comments automatically.

Is there an alternative?

Yes: Convocept, a free, fast comment system by the same team. It keeps every comment in your own WordPress database, so your comments can never disappear with a third-party service again. See convocept.com.

The best and does not slow down the web!

By ricrey on March 6, 2020

I look for maximum performance and maximum speed of my website, which does not make unnecessary connections, but all the plugins to add facebook comments on the blog made a call to the entire site even though they only appeared on the blog. But this plugin definitely changed everything! This was exactly what I was looking for, this plugin is not activated unless the user arrives at the comments part, so that does not call Facebook on the entire site to keep Facebook preloaded . This produces a significant saving of unnecessary connections, I definitely congratulate the developer.

One of the Best

This one will be on my favorite list. It’s really ‘lazy’ as the name says.

Excellent

Only One That Worked!

By hollywoodonlocation on April 23, 2019

I tried the #1 Comments Plugin and 3 others. None of them worked properly. The #1 one and 2 others did not even show on the page. The last one before this showed, but when you tried to leave a comment, you got an error. This one was so simple to install and it WORKED!!!!!! Only thing others may have issue with is that you cannot choose where it shows up. Fortunately, I already had another plugin where I blocked all comments except on my product pages and posts.

It disables WP comments

Replacing native comments in wordpress

By delict on May 5, 2018

Hi! Thanks for the great plugin, works perfect but it replaces the native wp comments, is there a chance you can give me that piece of code to sort this out and have fb comments and native wp comments in the same time? Thank you for your help and for the plugin and the fact that you keep it up to date!
